+”GIVE IT UP, LINDA! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” (lots of blog links)

++++

At first I thought I was going to post all of this as a comment which requires this format for links to be active.  Now that I have changed my mind and have moved all of this over here, I am leaving the “ugly” version of the active links — because I am too lazy to alter how this appears.  I have a whole bunch of vegetables crying in the fridge because they want to be all chopped up and cooked into soup.  (I am adding a few more links (not vegies) at the bottom in the old-fashioned format!)

I was trying to find past posts related to the topic of SHAME.  Well, I guess anything I have ever written about severe infant-child abuse and trauma is about shame.  So, while these posts might not be as specific as they COULD be, they are as specific a collection as will be the vegetables in my eventual pot of soup!

Posts on this blog related to what WE need to know about shame — and have a hard time finding:

  1. Thank you for letting me know about Sandy’s traveling status and that it is ok with you to have a conversation in ‘comments’ on your blog. I know, some people, maybe most people do use other names on the internet, when making comments and otherwise.

    It is so easy to get snagged into buying books that turn out to be not helpful. It is particularly upsetting to get lured into something like I did with buying Brown’s books. I started reading one of them, not sure I will finish.
    That quote from the book you noted was surely a hurtful thing to write. I can see why you wrote and posted on it. Sad to hear about getting HATE mail for expressing yourself on your own blog. Must have been intense that you removed the post. I would have too.

    I think our gut knows when something isn’t quite right. People who market things know just how to sneak in right on past our gut knowing sometimes. That is what happened with me and Brown’s books.

    I’ve done my best to read the links you’ve sent. I process very slowly and am not able to comprehend everything here. Thanks for your effort to give me information and links.

    Now, I’ve got a deadline, not mine, but one imposed on me. I need to get back to work on that project or I’m going to have some consequences I don’t want to deal with. Thanks again!

    PS, I hope you enjoy those fresh vegetables! Sounds great!

    • Good morning, Terri! I kept thinking yesterday and forgot to mention about the 1980s classic writer who did SO MUCH GOOD for uncountable numbers of people — John Bradshaw. I went to amazon.com and found that he is still writing or at least has a newer edition of this – and on the money, I bet! Will be interested to hear what Sandy might know of this book:

      Healing the Shame that Binds You

      The world is changing so fast! Being 61 (I thought all year until recently that I was 62!) I remember when the door began to crack open ever so slightly by the TV programs this man did.

      ++

      I just post ‘old’ blog links once in a while — there is no way to categorize/index posts for later access on this blog by topic — so these are all just in case someone finds even one little thought that can help clarify some mystery related to suffering. Hopefully people follow their gut around them until just the right thought pops up —

      Good to hear from you! The soup only had time to half cook last evening, so back onto the burner it went this morning for the rest of its cooking. Bad night sleeping – oh, well! Some nights are wonderful for sleeping, and I am always so grateful for them!

      Hope your day brings you hope, healing and quiet joy! Linda

      • Hi Linda,
        I’m very familiar with John Bradshaw. Many people around me were reading his books, watching his programs, going to his retreats, doing the exercises he was demonstrating, talking about him and benefitting from his work when I began my work back in the 80’s. I didn’t really get into what he was doing. I do have this book you refer to. Have never been able to stay with reading it all the way through. But I do refer to it occasionally. There are some parts that have been helpful. Agree, seemingly he did help a lot of people.
        T.

        • Again, no matter what I have ever read in the self-help tradition, including 10 years in AA and a decade of therapy in the 80s — what I needed to be told was not mentioned — in fact, wasn’t “discovered” — the fact that severe early abuse and trauma changes our physiological development on all levels (directly related to unsafe and insecure attachment conditions) is what I needed to know — and fortunately I have lived long enough for that info to be presented and I found it
